Digital resources in speech therapy – Boom cards
Share
I love being able to share my discoveries for "no-prep" intervention with you. Not too long ago, I shared a video on using Boom binders. Are you familiar with them? They're my latest favorite for remote or in-person interventions, because yes, I dare to hope that life and speech therapy will return to something like "normal." While I appreciate the new learning that comes with telepractice and the challenges it presents, I miss the contact with my little ones.
So, you might be wondering, "What are Boom cards?" They are digital cards for interventions. You can use them on your computer, tablet, and even a SMART whiteboard.
Good news! No download is required. Simply visit the website of wow.boomlearning.com and create an account. Bonus: no need to print anything. These digital cards are accessible online. How wonderful! Personally, I always aim to minimize my preparation time for my therapy sessions, as well as the activities given to parents.
So what are the features? The most practical use is for remote practice. Your student can easily manipulate the cards when you give them control of your screen. When they play, there's immediate feedback. Your student knows whether they got the answer right or not, and all the cards are interactive. In Boomlearning, you can create a folder for each student, and when they play, their performance is automatically saved. There's also the option to simply share the "fastpin" link with your student so they can access the cards without saving their results. For more information on the features, you can check out Boom's tutorials on YouTube (in English) and here to learn how to create your class: https://youtu.be/_3GGDRG68qs
To gain access, you create an account on their website. You can find the maps directly on wow.boomlearning.com or alternatively on the website of Teachers Pay Teachers . The free version allows you to create one class with up to 5 students and 5 digital card packs. Paid versions range from $15 USD to $35 USD per year.
