Inclusive Speech Therapy

Supporting bilingual and multilingual children

Pre-recorded training - 10.5 hours

6 months access

  • You are a speech-language pathologist who sees many children acquiring a second language, and it is difficult to accurately pinpoint the needs of these young people.

  • Your input is often in French, but French is not your native language;

  • You work with this clientele and often wonder when to act or wait;

  • You don't know how to involve parents in the intervention because their native language is different;

  • It's difficult for you to choose the right assessment tools;

  • You know that your standardized assessment tools are not valid;

What you really want is to be able to:

✔️ Determine when a bilingual assessment is necessary or when it's better to wait;

✔️ Know what to do when a child is exposed to 3 languages;

✔️ Have a better understanding of the tests available for assessments;

✔️ Offer relevant intervention, adapted to the bilingual child based on their reality, so that the intervention is beneficial in all their life contexts;

✔️ Distinguish between a developmental language disorder and a child still acquiring their L2;

✔️ Be better equipped to communicate with families from different backgrounds and school professionals who sometimes have preconceived notions.

Imagine if you had all the tools and information gathered in one place to meet these needs…

I am Melissa Farkouh

I founded a speech therapy clinic in the Montreal area (Quebec, Canada) in 2012. For several years, I supported children and parents in healthcare facilities, daycares, and through telepractice.

I specialized in:

  • bilingualism or multilingualism in children
  • dynamic assessment
  • parental partnership

Today, I support speech therapists and language development specialists in optimizing their interventions with children and their families. I have trained professionals from Canada, as well as Switzerland, France, Lebanon, and Algeria.

I place great importance on parents' expertise and encourage interventions adapted to the functional needs of each child living with language difficulties.

My approach highlights the importance of the child's environment – indeed, of a village! – in their development.
